NICE Clinical Guidance
NICE Clinical Guidance 100 offers recommendations on managing acute alcohol withdrawal and treatment for a variety of alcohol-related conditions.
The guideline includes recommendations on:
- Acute alcohol withdrawal
- Wernicke’s encephalopathy
- Alcohol-related liver disease
- Alcohol-related pancreatitis

BNF
The BNF on alcohol dependence offers recommendations and treatment options for assisted alcohol withdrawal, alcohol dependence and Wernicke’s encephalopathy. Alcohol withdrawal recommendations include a drug regimen of lorazepam for delirium tremens and forms of alcohol dependence have recommendations of treatment with thiamine.
The Royal College of Emergency Medicine (RCEM)
The RCEM provides an alcohol toolkit for emergency staff. The toolkit provides information on early identification and brief alcohol advice to patients along with the recommended pathway and treatment recommendations for alcohol-related conditions.
Welsh Framework Report
The Alcohol Misuse in Wales framework report provides direction on alcohol misuse in primary care and specialist alcohol services.
