HOW TO PRESCRIBE

Vitamins B&C Kyowa Kirin Intravenous High Potency, Concentrate for Solution for Infusion (Vitamins B&C Kyowa Kirin IVHP) is a parenteral therapy for rapid treatment of severe depletion or malabsorption of the water soluble vitamins B and C, including those related to alcohol misuse and malnutrition.1

Prescribing Vitamins B&C Kyowa Kirin IVHP

2 pairs, 3 times a day, for 5 days

Some patients may require 3 pairs of ampoules three times daily

*Unless Wernicke’s encephalopathy is excluded

A prescription for Vitamins B&C Kyowa Kirin IVHP for two pairs, three times a day for five days would be:

2 x (1+2) TDS 5d

Vitamins B&C Kyowa Kirin IVHP high potency solution for intravenous infusion:

  • Is presented in a 6 pair carton containing 12 ampoules.
  • Each pair consists of two 5ml ampoules (ampoule 1 + ampoule 2) - 10ml in total.

Divided into an easily identifiable paired vial presentation, the Vitamins B&C Kyowa Kirin IVHP treatment pack has been designed to help reduce the risk of dosing and administration errors.

Each pack contains the minimum licensed daily dose of two pairs of ampoules, three times daily.

Administration

The licensed adult dose in severe depletion of thiamine that can lead to Wernicke’s encephalopathy is:

  • 2 to 3 pairs of 5ml ampoules, diluted with 50ml to 100ml infusion solution (physiological saline or glucose 5%), administered over 30 minutes every 8 hours.

Always give Vitamins B&C Kyowa Kirin IVHP before or with the administration of carbohydrates or glucose fluids to avoid precipitation of WE.4

Ampoule 1 (5ml): White stripe around ampoule containing Thiamine hydrochloride BP (250mg), Riboflavin (4mg) (as phosphate sodium VP), Pyridoxine hydrochrloide BP (50mg). Ampoule 2 (5ml): Black stripe around ampoule containing Ascorbic acid BP (500mg), Nicotinamide BP (160mg), Glucose (1ooomg) (as monohydrate)
